Things seemed a little more relaxed under Mr. J. C. Lowe - as this page shows. In November, an Occasional Holiday was granted to celebrate exam success.

More importantly, things that we now take for granted - like the school play and the school concert - were unheard of in those days. Just as Mr. Field had established school dinners,  Mr. Lowe gave the school concerts - starting in December 1947.
