First, a picture of a very young Mr.
J. C. Lowe at a Sports Day, judging by the cups on the table. |
|
He also wanted the School to be better
known in higher circles.
So a gift to the Palace - and a kind response.
The letter appears to have been signed by Sir Edward Ford, private
secretary to HM Queen Elizabeth II, 1952-67 - so the Queen would
actually have seen the magazine. |
|
There were all sorts of debates.
Here, it is about the "new" school in
Scarbrook Road, Croydon... |
|
.. And, here, concerning the cost of
the new JRGS location in Shirley, to which the school moved in 1955! |
|
Then there was building of the new
school on Upper Shirley Road... |
|
... although these pictures don't look
too dissimilar... |
|
... to those of the demolition in
another part of this site. |
|
And the Field Dinner legacy lived on -
with no (?) complaints! |
|
Finally, the new school building was
opened on 11 January, 1955.
Not quite with the Illuminated Scroll
and Golden Key - but the School Record shows that it was done with
some pride. |
