May 1955 School Magazine Series III - Number 16 |
Here is a scanned copy of the May 1955 edition of JRGS School Magazine, kindly supplied by Mike Marsh and imaged by Paul Graham. Each of the images are offered as individual JPEG files.
Paul Graham writes: I love the picture on page 2; it takes me back to my first day at JRGS. Odd to see from Mr. Lowe's foreword on page 4 that he had something to say about vandals in their midst, even back in those rose-tinted days. He also mentions the origin of "Age Quod Agis". I wonder where the Ruskin family tomb is? Elsewhere, there's an obituary of Mr. Chinnock, the last original (1920) member of staff, pastoral delight over the beautiful Shirley Hills (I guess they hadn't yet had to endure one of Mr. Smith's February cross-countries), he installation of Mr. Hancock's pride and joy in the Hall, and some very 1950s racial and political views by Fifth formers on pages 16/17. |
