         Here
is a copy of the February 1954 school magazine, which results from a
visit in August 2003 by Paul Graham (JRGS 1959-66) and Nick Goy (JRGS 1963-70) to the Local Studies
Library and Croydon Archives. Each of the images are offered as
         individual JPEG files.
            Paul Graham
writes: This is the first of a
handful of school magazines from the mid-50s, courtesy of Croydon
Borough Archives. Since I had to rely on scanning photocopies, the
quality is not as good as if I had been able to scan the originals. But
this does not reflect on the excellence and gratefully received
assistance of the staff at the archives. In any case, the results are
         very acceptable.
The school is looking forward to its move to Shirley, with the headmaster
Mr. Lowe waxing lyrical on the countryside (page
         1 and

page 4). As he was a Shropshire lad, he would certainly have
appreciated the move to rural surroundings. Staff changes (Mssrs
Wright, Lawes and Badcock) are noted on

page 6, with the arrival of Miss Carter as school secretary, who
Alumni of that era will remember.
  On
page 21 there is a report of a Sixth Form Christmas Party with
"dancing to records alternating with games," which seems to be from a
different era, especially as "staff and their wives" had been invited.
         On

page 23 Mr. "Rhino" Rees shows a soft spot for Roman sculpture and
         on

page 17 there is a list of Organ Fund subscribers, including the
mysterious Mr. E. Muggeridge, possibly related to Malcolm and his
         father.
         We have also prepared a
