June 1945 School Magazine |
Here is a copy of the June 1945 school magazine, which results from a visit in August 2003 by Paul Graham (JRGS 1959-66) and the late Nick Goy (JRGS 1963-70) to the Local Studies Library and Croydon Archives. Each of the images are offered as individual JPEG files. Click here to access a continuous document. [Warning: It is a large file.] Paul Graham writes: As you would expect from the date of this magazine, there seems a weary relief as the clouds of war lift. There are several articles on VE Day (page 15 and also one on page 21 by Terence Morris, now Professor T. P. Morris, economist and academic at the London School of Economics); more news of ex-alumni who died in the war or who arrived back safely, like a member of staff Mr. Cresswell; the arrival of Mr. "Vic" Gee as head of Art (page 1, and page 14 for a report on his Ruskin Sketch Club); early news on page 2 of the transition to Grammar School status and to the planned relocation to a new site in Addiscombe although, as we know, that turned out to be Shirley instead. |
