December 1936 School Magazine

   Roger Adcock (JRGS 1963-68) and Trevor Adcock JRGS (1966-72) write: "We found this edition in our father's papers amongst a pile of school magazines.
   "Brian Arthur Adcock (JRCS 1931-36/37) was in form VC in 1936 - Mr. William 'Wally' Cracknell's class; we remember him telling us many times over! - and passed away in 1986. Also he went to see 'Wally' at the time of Roger's school interview. At the time we must have assumed it was just to remind him that Roger needed a good thrashing! Quite what 'Wally' thought we do not know as he never ever mentioned it. (Come to think of it, did he ever speak to Roger?) If he had I would have told him to thrash Trevor and not me! After all, Trevor was four years younger and needed the benefit of a strict upbringing!!
   "On page 19, our Dad has denoted those classmates mentioned in the magazine who were killed on active service during WW2. He added handwritten annotations against firstly those killed in WW2 who passed the Oxford School Certificate and, secondly, highlighted the Annual Swimming Gala Results in that his class V1C winners were ALL killed in WW2. He remembered them all every year."

ML adds: This was the year that both William Cracknell and George Pearman joined the staff, and also the first time that the Tamworth Road building appeared on the magazine's front cover - the school moved to its new premises from Scarbrook Road in December 1935.
